Southern Hills Christian College is a K-12 Christian school in Bedfordale, Western Australia, and is part of the Swan Christian Education Association. Our staff are all committed Christians, and this belief is embedded both explicitly and implicitly in our curriculum and all that we do.
We are seeking an organised and passionate Laboratory Technician to join our Administration team in an ongoing, part-time position commencing July 20th, the start of Term 3. The workload is 0.3693 FTE, equivalent to working 2 days a week with 8 weeks of paid leave a year.
The successful candidate will support science staff by preparing and maintaining laboratory resources, setting up experiments, and ensuring safe, effective science learning, as part of the Administration Staff Team.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Prepare laboratory equipment and materials for science lessons, supporting safe experiment setup and practices.
- Maintain, organise, and monitor laboratory equipment, supplies, and inventory records to ensure resources are safe, stocked, and in good working order.
- Ensure laboratory safety and compliance through safe chemical handling, risk assessments, equipment inspections, and adherence to OHS and school policies.
- Support science teaching staff with practical experiments, technical assistance, troubleshooting, and laboratory resources.
- Maintain laboratory records, safety documentation, and inventory systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to a professional, safe, and collaborative school environment through responsive support, teamwork, and positive communication, and other duties as required.
Selection Criteria:
Essential:
- Demonstrates a personal commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and is an active member of a Christian Church, living in accordance with the Association’s Statement of Faith and Educational Objectives.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in the use, maintenance, and handling of laboratory equipment and chemicals, including knowledge of safety practices and regulatory standards.
- Organisational Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple tasks, organise resources, and maintain accurate records.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in preparing and setting up experiments and maintaining a safe laboratory environment.
- Communication Skills: Ability to work effectively with teaching staff, students, and other school personnel, providing clear and supportive guidance on laboratory activities.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve issues with equipment and laboratory setups efficiently.
- Holds a current Working with Children card, Department of Education Criminal History Check, or willingness to apply.
Desirable:

- A certificate or diploma in Laboratory Technology or a related field is desirable.
- Experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably within a secondary school setting.
- Familiarity with science curricula and practical laboratory activities for secondary education is advantageous.
