POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance & Grounds staff member will be joining a small but efficient team at our rapidly expanding school. The core aspects of the role relate to maintenance and upkeep of the school’s buildings, grounds and facilities. Our M&G Team ensures a safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Candidates with a trade qualification or industry experience are encouraged to apply, as are those with limited relevant education or experience. While this is ideally a Full-Time position, candidates interested in Part-Time or Casual positions will also be considered. A successful candidate with relevant qualifications, skills, and experience, may be provided with the opportunity to take on a leadership role within the M&G Team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities detailed below are not exhaustive and serve as a general guideline, complete with examples, of the tasks that the M&G Team might need to perform. Additionally, the skills and abilities of the selected candidate will also be considered.

Should a candidate with significant experience or relevant qualifications be successful, the responsibilities would be expanded as appropriate.

Grounds

  • Lawn mowing, hedge trimming, grass maintenance, garden bed maintenance, weed removal & spraying
  • Manage & repair irrigation systems. Ensure efficient water usage.
  • Organise waste collections: Placement of bins, arranging contracted rubbish collections, litter collection patrols.

Buildings, Facilities & Equipment

  • Pressure washing pathways, external walls, tiles and other surfaces.
  • Moving and assembling furniture as required.
  • Perform routine inspections and identify maintenance requirements.
  • Setting up for events and providing support.
  • Maintain accurate records of assets in relevant systems.
  • Maintain inventories of tools, equipment and supplies.

Maintenance

  • Carry out minor-moderate repairs, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry work, painting, line marking, gutters, other handyman repairs.
  • Vehicle maintenance & upkeep: Refuelling, detailing, vacuuming, tyre pressure, check coolant & oil levels, and transporting to service centres.
  • Occasional cleaning: Surfaces, floor care, carpets, restroom maintenance.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for major repairs and renovations.
  • Maintain records of tasks undertaken and communicate regularly with supervisor/s.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all activities comply with health & safety regulations, including safe manual handling practices.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for major repairs and renovations.
  • Conduct regular safety checks/audits, identify risks, and rectify and report relevant matters.
  • Safe chemical management, storage and disposal. Maintain Safety Data Sheet register
  • Electrical testing & tagging.

  • Any relevant trade qualification

  • Groundskeeping Experience: Proven experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, and garden maintenance.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Experience in developing and implementing preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Safety Compliance: Experience in adhering to safety regulations and protocols.
  • Maintenance Experience: Experience in building maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work.
  • Leadership Experience: Experience in supervising and coordinating a small team.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Time Management: Effectively prioritising tasks and managing time to meet deadlines.
  • Communication: Clear and concise communication with staff, students, and external contractors.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Developing and implementing maintenance schedules to prevent issues.
  • Teamwork: Working collaboratively with other staff members and leading a team if required.
  • Inventory Management: Keeping track of maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensuring all activities comply with safety regulations and school policies.
  • Leadership (if applicable): Supervising and coordinating the activities of the maintenance team.
  • Adaptability: A crucial skill – flexibility to handle changing priorities, new challenges, and unexpected situations as they arise.
  • Customer Service: Providing excellent service to the school community, addressing concerns promptly and professionally.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • Occasional availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, would be advantageous.
  • Additional Duties: The staff member may be required to undertake responsibilities and attend to tasks outside the usual scope of their role, as directed by the Principal or Business Manager, to support the needs of the school.
