Charlton Christian College is a K–12 co-educational Christian school located in Fassifern, Lake Macquarie. Our mission is to provide a Christ-centred education of excellence that empowers students to develop their God-given potential.

As part of our continued growth and a recent internal promotion, we are seeking an experienced and passionate educational leader to join our team as Head of Primary commencing January 2027. Reporting to the Assistant Principal, the Head of Primary provides strategic and operational leadership of the Primary School (K-6), ensuring excellence in teaching, learning, wellbeing and Christian formation.

This key leadership role is responsible for fostering a Christ-centred culture, leading staff development, overseeing student wellbeing and behaviour, supporting the implementation of teaching and learning initiatives, and contributing to the strategic direction of the College.

About the Role

The Head of Primary will:

  • Lead the Primary School in alignment with the College’s mission, values and strategic direction.
  • Foster a culture of spiritual growth, academic excellence and student wellbeing.
  • Lead and develop staff, promoting high-quality teaching and pastoral practice.
  • Support the implementation of College-wide teaching and learning frameworks.
  • Build strong relationships with students, families and staff.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with the Assistant Principal and the Lead Education Team.
  • As a growing College, opportunities exist to lead meaningful change and contribute significantly to the future direction of Christian education at Charlton Christian College.

Selection Criteria

Applicants will demonstrate:

  • A personal Christian faith, regular church attendance and willingness to support the College’s Statement of Faith.
  • Understanding of, and commitment to child safety principles.
  • Current NSW Teacher Accreditation and Working with Children Check.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Education, ideally at postgraduate level, with substantial experience in teaching and leadership.
  • Understanding of curriculum and assessment expectations, with ability to support school-level implementation in collaboration with the Head of Studies and Head of Teaching, Learning and Primary Curriculum.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead and mentor staff in professional growth and continual improvement in teaching and pastoral practice.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships, influence culture and contribute to strategic planning within a Christian educational context.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional learning, reflection and innovation in educational leadership.
  • Evidence of the following behavioural competencies:

Salary & Conditions

The annual salary Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Christian Schools Teaching Staff Multi-Enterprise Agreement. The annual salary of $164,265 includes a Position of Responsibility Allowance of POR 3. The role is full time and may include a teaching load of up to 0.2 FTE.
