Carmichael College is a dynamic, developing College, committed to educational excellence in an overt and distinctly Christian environment. We are a non-denominational, independent Christian school located in Morayfield, Queensland. Currently the College offers a Prep to Year 12 program. With a current student population of 870, projections indicate that student numbers will peak at around 1,400.
The College is seeking applications from experienced, self-motivated, Specialist Instrumental Tutors in Strings, Woodwind, Brass and Percussion to join the Co-Curricular Arts Department at the College, commencing in February 2025 (Term 1). The positions will commence with approx. 1 day per week, with up to 1-2 days per week for Strings, with the possibility of increasing. Student numbers determining lesson loads are subject to enrolment requests. The role/s to provide exceptional support to our expanding Arts Department. The successful applicants will be a highly trusted members of a wider team of Arts colleagues across Primary & Secondary school.
The Role:
These positions are focused on providing support to the Head of the Arts in the delivery of our expanding Co-Curricular Instrumental Music programs. Day to day key tasks, responsibilities and attributes of suitable Instrumental Tutors include (but are not limited to) the following:
Ability to effectively provide a high level of instrumental music expertise to assist each child to reach their full potential and to help build a culture of excellence in Instrumental Music.
Provide expertise in individual and group lessons
Effectively lead Ensemble/Band rehearsals
Ability to provide a written progress report to parents for encouraging growth
Context:
Instrumental tutors are contracted to the College; however, the Beginner Programs billed directly to the college in line with QMTA rates, therefore an ABN and relevant insurances and qualifications are essential. For group and private tuition outside of the scope of the Beginner Programs, parents are billed directly by the tutor. Tuition fees aligned with QMTA rate for 2025.
Year 4 Beginner Strings Ensemble & Beginner Concert Band Program – The College is implementing a Beginner String Ensemble & Beginner Concert Band Program in Year 4 and currently an opportunity exists for Tutors to deliver excellence in music education through small group lessons and ensemble rehearsals through this program.
Further tuition opportunities exist over Middle & Senior School for expanding tuition offering from Year 4 upwards through private and small group lessons. This position supports the development of correct playing technique and paving the way for preparing students for exams and performances.
The Person:
To be the successful applicant you will need to demonstrate:
– A passion for teaching both the instrument and young people
– High-level organisational skills to plan rehearsals, learning sequences, track student progress, report and communicate with students, colleagues, and the wider school community, effectively and in a timely manner
– Relevant tertiary qualification in Music
– A willingness to participate in rehearsals, concerts, and workshop events
– Familiarity with and experience in preparing students for examination systems such as AMEB and Trinity an advantage
– Strong interpersonal skills to engage with children, staff, parents, and the wider school community with a positive, collegial, and team-oriented approach
– Ability to work independently and collaboratively, maintaining professionalism and high standards
– Proficiency in Information Communication Technology
– Commitment to a personal faith in Jesus Christ and able to translate faith into practice
– Personal philosophies that align with, and fully support the College mission, values and beliefs as expressed in the College Statement of Faith
– Flexibility, forward thinking, enthusiasm, confidence with decision making, and excellent problem-solving skills
– Great attention to detail and demonstrated team participation with a high level of responsiveness (essential)
– The ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality (essential)
– A current (Employee) Blue Card (working with children check) is mandatory.
