Position Purpose: To provide strategic leadership of the English Department while delivering outstanding teaching and learning for Years 7–12 through a Christian worldview.

 

The Position:

Heads of Faculty lead and manage the academic and professional functioning of their faculty area. They are responsible for curriculum leadership, staff development, resource allocation, and ensuring high-quality teaching and learning aligned with the College’s Christian mission.

The role requires a committed Christian educator who actively supports and promotes the school’s Statement of Faith, Christian values, and educational philosophy while inspiring students to pursue truth, wisdom, excellence, and service through the study of language, literature, and communication.

As a member of the school’s Secondary School leadership team, the Head of Faculty leads staff in delivering a high-quality English program that reflects the school’s Christian mission, academic standards, and commitment to holistic student development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic and pedagogical leadership within the faculty.
  • Oversee planning, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, ensuring compliance with ACARA, BSSS and College standards.
  • Support faculty staff with programming, assessment design, and data-informed teaching practices.
  • Monitor student progress and achievement and coordinate intervention strategies where necessary.
  • Support differentiated learning to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and reflective practice.
  • Facilitate regular faculty meetings and professional dialogue.
  • Mentor and support staff within the faculty, including early career teachers.
  • Oversee the organisation of subject-based events, excursions, competitions, and co-curricular opportunities.
  • Manage faculty resources and budgets efficiently.
  • Contribute to subject selection advice and guide students in appropriate course pathways.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Teaching and Learning and Deputy Principal to align strategic priorities.

Selection Criteria:

  • A demonstrated and active Christian faith, with a commitment to the mission and values of Christian education.
  • Appropriate teaching qualifications and eligibility for teacher registration with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI).
  • Proven leadership experience in curriculum development, teaching, and staff supervision.
  • Extensive knowledge of English curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment practices.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Experience with ACT BSSS senior secondary courses and assessment requirements.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Education, or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Current ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) registration.
  • Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Registration.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia.
  • Commitment to the Christian ethos and values of the school.
