About the Role
As part the teaching team under the leadership of the Director of Christian Growth, the School Chaplain will support the development and implementation of a robust Christian education that will grow each person’s faith, expressed through greater understanding, engagement and commitment to Christ. As part of the chaplaincy team, they will be a key contributor to the growth of a community committed to deeper knowledge of the Bible, with relationships, actions and a culture of service inspired by Christ. Specifically, the Chaplain will:
> Provide spiritual support to students, parents and staff, taking into account the specific needs of the school.
> Contribute to the theological development and growth of staff in their role as educators, taking into account the school’s annual theme and educational pedagogy.
> Embody the mission, vision and values of the school through both pastoral care and pastoral leadership as the opportunity arises with a focus on discipleship and leadership development in the student body.
The School Chaplain operates from a framework of Christian belief and personally model and their own faith position within the boundaries of the school’s statement of faith and expressed values. This is to be done in a manner that is God honouring and consistent with the School’s vision to provide a Christ-centred education in a learning community of Love, Nurture and Service. You will work collaboratively as part of our teaching team under the leadership of the Director of Christian Growth.
Essential Criteria
Able to demonstrate a high level competency of the core teachings of the Bible, an ability to articulate its message appropriately and apply them to real life situations.
> Able to demonstrate an understanding of the theories and practicalities of providing pastoral care and spiritual support to the school community from a Biblical perspective. > Able to proactively develop relationships in the school community within a Biblical framework, with students, staff and parents across all age groups and cultural backgrounds.
> A sharp, research-informed progressive vision of learning and teaching and the capacity to contribute to innovations that shape a Christian learning community of excellence.
> A gifted, dynamic teacher with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the development and educational needs of students and a passion for encouraging them in faith in Jesus Christ.
> Able to demonstrate a track record of working effectively with children and young people and abroad understanding of the issues affecting them within a Christian school.
> Able to work collaboratively and respectfully with all stakeholders and partners (Principal, staff, teaching staff, student support staff, agencies, volunteers etc.) from a Biblical perspective for the benefit and wellbeing of students and staff.
> Able to communicate ideas effectively with a range of people in a range of settings, including the ability to communicate faith issues openly and respectfully, within a Christian school.
> Qualifications in Theology, Christian Studies or Chaplaincy or a willingness to work toward relevant qualifications.
> Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and a willingness to relate with compassion, humility, grace, strength and integrity to students, families and staff.
> Leadership and administrative skills, including team building, coaching and mentoring.
