School Laboratory Technician

0.8659 FTE | Permanent | Commences 2027

Ellenbrook Christian College (ECC), a thriving Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 school in Perth’s northeast corridor, provides Christ-centred education that nurtures the spiritual, social, emotional, and academic growth of every student. As part of the Swan Christian Education Association (SCEA), we are a provider of quality Christian education, dedicated to nurturing the academic and spiritual growth of our students.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Laboratory Technician to join our Science Department in a permanent role commencing 27 January 2027. This role will be 40 hours per week for 40 weeks per year, equivalent to 0.8659 FTE with 12 weeks of paid leave.

The successful candidate will work with science teachers and other laboratory staff to prepare and supply materials to ensure that students have safe and engaging practical learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Prepare and set up chemicals, materials and equipment for practical experiments and classroom demonstrations.
• Provide practical support before, during and after experiments, working closely with teaching staff to ensure successful delivery.
• Support and improve experimental procedures by identifying practical solutions and raising safety considerations.
• Maintain laboratory equipment through routine servicing, calibration, repairs and hazard reporting.
• Ensure the safe storage, organisation and management of chemicals, hazardous materials and laboratory facilities.
• Manage chemical and hazardous waste disposal in accordance with established guidelines, protocols and safety requirements.

Essential Selection Criteria:

• Demonstrates a personal commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and is an active member of a Christian Church, living in accordance with the Association’s Statement of Faith and Educational Objectives.
• TAFE qualification in Laboratory Practices (or equivalent) and relevant experience in a school or laboratory environment.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, chemical handling, storage, disposal requirements, and legislative compliance standards.
• Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to accurately prepare, organise and maintain laboratory equipment, materials and resources.
• Highly organised and collaborative, with excellent time management skills and a strong commitment to laboratory safety.
• Holds, or is willing to obtain, a Working with Children Check, and Department of Education Criminal History Clearance.

• Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to manage a varied workload in a busy school environment
