Secondary Drama Teacher (0.8 – 1.0 FTE) Southern Hills Christian College is a K-12 Christian school in Bedfordale, Western Australia, and part of the Swan Christian Education Association (SCEA). Our staff are all committed Christians, and this belief is embedded both explicitly and implicitly in our curriculum and all that we do. We are seeking a passionate and skilled Secondary Drama Teacher to teach and inspire students across Years 7–12. The role is offered at 0.8 FTE, with the possibility of increasing to 1.0 FTE depending on experience and capacity to take on additional responsibilities. Our brand new, purpose-built Performing Arts Theatre, opening in the near future, will provide an unparalleled environment for drama and music to flourish. Drama at Southern Hills shapes students academically, spiritually, and personally. Through story and performance, the successful candidate will nurture creativity, identity, empathy, and confidence in young people. Key Responsibilities Include:
- Deliver engaging, high-quality Drama programs for Years 7–12 aligned with the WA Curriculum and a Christian worldview. Lead rehearsals, workshops, showcases, and full-scale productions.
- Collaborate with colleagues to plan performance opportunities and co-curricular events.
- Support the pastoral and spiritual formation of students through drama and storytelling.
- Build caring, professional relationships with students, families, and staff.
- Maintain teaching standards in line with AITSL requirements and engage in ongoing professional learning.
- Uphold all child safety responsibilities and contribute positively to the College’s Christian culture.
- Undertake extra duties as required – such as grounds duty, internal relief, parent evenings, College events, staff meetings, etc.
Selection Criteria: Essential:
- A personal commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and active involvement in a Christian church. Acceptance of SCEA’s Statement of Faith, Foundational Beliefs, and Educational Objectives, with a lifestyle consistent with these statements.
- Appropriate teaching qualifications and registration with the Teacher Registration Board of WA.
- Technical and expressive competence in Drama (acting, directing, stagecraft).
- Proven experience teaching Drama in a school setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- A philosophy of education that integrates Christian faith, academic rigour, and character formation. Strong organisational and time-management skills, including experience planning productions and managing logistics.
- Willingness to lead co-curricular Drama and mentor students beyond class time.
- Commitment to child safety, pastoral care, and contributing to Christian community life.
Desirable: (Include where appropriate in your response)
- Experience teaching Drama at secondary level, including ATAR or General courses.
- Studies in Christian Education or familiarity with literature in Christian pedagogy.
- Experience using digital learning platforms (LMS).
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to integrate digital technologies into practice.
