Due to the continued growth of our College, and an increase in student numbers, we are excited to announce a variety of new positions available across our Learning Areas.
As part of this recruitment drive, we are seeking expressions of interest for the following position:
Full-time (1.0 FTE): Head of Learning Area – HASS commencing in January 2025
The Head of the Learning Area is a key leadership role within the College and is responsible for the delivery of innovative curriculum, improving teaching and learning and the leadership and development of staff.
The Position:
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Curriculum & Professional Development: Lead curriculum initiatives with a focus on the Western Australian Curriculum and WACE courses. Support staff in ongoing professional learning and development in collaboration with College leadership.
- Professional Networking & External Engagement: Maintain relationships with relevant external groups and networks (e.g., professional associations, Schools Curriculum and Standards Authority), participate in WACE panels, and stay informed on HASS Learning Area research and best practices.
- Performance & Expectations: Set professional expectations for staff, support their appraisal and performance management, and encourage professional growth through development opportunities.
Teaching and Learning Responsibilities:
- Innovative Program Development: Design engaging, differentiated programs that meet diverse student needs and abilities.
- Instructional Leadership: Model and promote contemporary teaching practices, including effective use of ICT.
- Student Support & Collaboration: Work closely with the Inclusive Learning Coordinator and staff across learning areas to support students at risk.
- Teaching Component: Participate directly in classroom teaching as part of the role.
Administration Management:
- Course Implementation & Compliance: Ensure alignment of Senior School courses with School Curriculum and Standards Authority requirements, managing data submissions within deadlines.
- Assessment Oversight: Maintain assessment standards and consistency across the Learning Area.
- Information & Promotion: Update course handbooks and actively promote HASS courses.
- Meeting Coordination: Organize and document monthly Learning Area meetings and attend HOLA and Middle Management meetings.
- Budget & Resource Management: Oversee the HASS Learning Area’s budget and resource allocation.

Essential Knowledge and Experience:
You will have:
- an active Christian faith
- a passion for living out your Christian faith and prepared to model, uphold and support the Ethos and Core Values of the College
- a deeply relational, friendly and open personality
- outstanding teaching skills in your subject area
- Strong literacy and numeracy practices plus a clear understanding of the Western Australia Curriculum
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including team-building and mentoring skills
- high collaborative skills to support classroom teachers in assessing, designing and supervising the education programmes for students with diverse learning needs, focusing on providing opportunities for academic extension to all students
- attend in detail to innovative and creative practices.
- a commitment to supporting College policies and procedures relating to Classroom and Behaviour Management
- an understanding of technology and the ability to integrate this into your teaching confidently.
Qualifications:
You will have:
- relevant tertiary qualifications and experience related to the teaching responsibility required by the position
- current Western Australia Australian Teachers Registration Board Certificate of Registration (TRBWA)
- current Working With Children Card
- current Police Clearance.
Additional Requirements:
- The successful applicant will be expected to complete the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations Modules if not already completed.
- You must have the right to live and work in Australia (VEVO checks will be conducted to confirm your eligibility to work in Australia).
