The Assistant Head of Primary supports the Head of Primary in the effective day-to-day leadership of the Primary School. This role ensures smooth operational functioning and provides consistent, visible leadership in student behaviour and wellbeing. The AHOP works closely with staff, students, families and Welfare team to uphold high standards of behaviour and to foster a safe, respectful and Christ-centred learning environment where all students are known, valued and cared for.

Key Responsibilities
Support for Head of Primary
• Provide high-level support to the Head of Primary in implementing the strategic vision of the school
• Act as a key liaison between the Head of Primary and teaching staff to ensure smooth communication and follow-through
• Deputise for the Head of Primary as required in meetings, communications or events
• Maintain alignment with the school’s Strategic Plan, contributing to planning, review, and implementation
Oversight of Day-to-Day Operations
Assist with the coordination of daily logistics such as:
· Staffing adjustments
· Assembly and event planning
· Managing timetable-based adjustments or supervision needs
Leadership of Behaviour
• Oversee the implementation of the school’s behaviour curriculum, ensuring consistency across Primary
• Respond promptly to escalated student behaviour (Level 2+).
• Coordinate support for students requiring additional pastoral care or behaviour intervention
• Assist in managing urgent behaviour-related incidents, parent escalations or student welfare emergencies in collaboration with the Head of Primary and/or Welfare Team
• Collaborate with Stage Coordinators and Teachers to ensure consistent student expectations and classroom routines are maintained
• Be a consistent presence in classrooms, playgrounds and transition times to support calm and predictable routines
Staff Support and Capacity Building
• Provide coaching, modelling, and professional learning for Teachers and Learning Assistants around behaviour management, trauma informed practice and positive culture-building.
• Support new and early-career teachers in understanding and applying the school’s behavioural expectations
Liaise with Chaplains, Staff and Families
• Work closely with Welfare Team to coordinate pastoral care for students needing additional support
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with parents around Level 2+ behaviour concerns and outcomes
• Foster positive, proactive partnerships with families to support student growth and responsibility
• Support students and families with attendance issues
• Lead parent education on key wellbeing and behaviour themes
Detention and Accountability Systems
• Oversee the running and consistency of lunch-time and after-school detentions
• Track and monitor student detentions and referrals, identifying patterns and taking follow-up action where necessary

• Demonstrated success in managing student behaviour with consistency and care
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence school culture through both strategy and presence
• Ability to collaborate with a range of stakeholders and lead school wide systems effectively
• Skilled in conflict resolution and restorative conversations
• Experience in coaching staff and building school-wide consistency
Selection Process
Following the closure of applications, the School’s Selection Committee will consider applications and prepare a shortlist of candidates for interview.
The School may move more quickly to interview highly suitable applicants. It is expected that at least one round of interviews will be undertaken with the successful applicant appointed to the School, commencing duties at the beginning of Term One 2026.
Salary
Salary will align with NSW Christian Schools Teaching Staff Multi Enterprise Agreement 2020-2023 at the successful applicant’s level of responsibility and experience.
