With solid growth in the quality and reputation of the School in the local community, student numbers, organisational capacity and facilities are rapidly expanding. Maitland Christian School is excited to be seeking a qualified Christian psychologist to oversee the psychological needs of our students. In partnership with school leadership and the wellbeing team, the School Psychologist will provide direct therapy, interventions, and assessments for students.

This part-time 0.6FTE or 3 day/week position will ideally start in the week commencing Monday 3rd November (negotiable)

About the Role
The school psychologist will provide the following services to Maitland Christian School:
·      Meeting with the school welfare team to discuss students requiring psychological treatment and/or assessment, case management and the clarification of the role of each staff member in the support of these students, and provision of guidance in proactive measures that staff can take to address common diagnoses and issues within the school.
·      Provision of psychological assessment for students where appropriate. Specifically, assessment of cognitive and academic testing for development of appropriate individual learning plans would be provided.
·      Providing counseling for students presenting with psychological diagnoses or who are otherwise in need of short-term counseling (grief, trauma etc). Short-term counseling will generally be capped at 6 sessions with external supports to be organised beyond this point. Meeting with the Principal or principal’s representative to provide an overview of students requiring such support and reporting on any issues that may place students or others at significant risk of harm.

The following ad-hoc services may also be provided:

·      Consultation on mental health literacy education programs for the school community.
·      Consultation and implementation of mental health intervention and illness prevention programs.
·      Specialised management and intervention as required for critical incidents and policies.
·      Specialised input as required into organisational procedures and practices in the school.
·      Other duties as requested (e.g. staff presentations etc.)

Essential Criteria
·      Be a committed Christian actively involved in their local church;
·      Be committed to the principles of Christian Schooling, subscribe to the School’s Statement of Faith, and actively support the Purpose and Strategic Intentions of the school;
·      Undergraduate degree in Psychology;
·      Eligible for AHPRA registration for a provisional psychologist. For the right candidate supervision through the Family Psychology Clinic;
·      Have (or be able to obtain prior to commencement) appropriate Working with Children’s Check clearances and able to operate in a child safe policy framework;
·      Experience and interest in the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with behavioural disorders, learning disorders, and mental health disorders;
·      Ability to work autonomously and also to function cooperatively within a team;
·      Excellent relationship building skills and customer service skills;
·      Good written and verbal communication skills;
·      A compassionate and empathetic approach to assessment and treatment delivery;
·      Commitment to ongoing professional development.

Selection Process
The School’s Selection Committee will consider applications as they are submitted and prepare a shortlist of candidates for interview. The School may move more quickly to interview highly suitable applicants. It is expected that at least one round of interviews will be undertaken with the successful applicant appointed to the School staff, ideally commencing duties as soon as possible or at the beginning of Term One 2026.

Salary
Salary will align with NSW Christian Schools Teaching Staff Multi- Enterprise Agreement 2020-2023 at the successful applicant’s level of
responsibility and experience.
