The Defence School Mentor (DSM) will assist the School to minimise the impact of the mobile lifestyle on
Defence students’ education. The DSM will assist Defence families and their students with changing
schools, integrating into the school community and providing support during parental absences.
The DSM will also raise awareness, within the school community, of the Defence lifestyle and the types of
support which can assist Defence students. The DSM is not a teacher, but a member of the School Student
Support Services Team.
The DSM is part of the Defence School Mentor Program and has been established to ensure the smooth
transition of families of Australian Defence Force personnel from school to school.
The DSM is a part-time position over 41 weeks per year. The DSM provides information and support to
students of Defence Force families and develops a range of programs, strategies and resources to assist
the School with long term support of families and dependents of ADF members.
The DSM is responsible to the Principal through the Deputy Principal (Wellbeing) and Business Manager.
The position is dependent upon funding to the School for the Defence School Mentor.
