Coolum Beach Christian College (QLD), a growing and unique school on the Sunshine Coast, is looking to appoint a Learning Support Teacher from Semester 1 2022.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The role of the Learning Support Teacher is to create an inclusive educational environment for students with disabilities and to provide support for those students, their teachers and learning support Teacher Aides (TAs).  The role may include teaching directly, completing and reviewing applications for students with special needs funding (ISQ) and organising the NCCD database.

KEY TASKS

The key tasks are to:

Provide advice, and assist with the implementation of the identified students’ support plans and to enhance participation in the classroom
Assist the teacher with monitoring, evaluation, reporting and planning for identified students with disabilities
Assist teachers to prepare and adapt resources and program materials for students with disabilities
Work with teachers and learning support TAs across the Primary school
Collaborate with outside agencies, eg Psychologists etc to support individual student achievement
In conjunction with classroom teachers, liaise with students’ families.
The successful applicant should have:

A successful classroom teaching background
·         Appropriate qualification and experience to provide Learning Support

·         Previous learning support experience

·         Previous experience developing Individual Support Plans

·         Knowledge and experience in applications for special needs funding

·         Knowledge and experience of compiling, collating and analysing NCCD data

The ability to identify, implement, and evaluate a range of strategies for classroom teachers to meet the educational needs of children with a disability
The ability to develop and monitor individual programs for children
Assessment skills for the evaluation of learning difficulties and knowledge of literacy and numeracy testing
The ability to work with staff, families, and other agencies to provide professional support for children with disabilities
·         Empathy and successful experience with students who have significant learning differences.
