Cedars Christian College – ASPIRE is a special school for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Intellectual impairments. Located in Wollongong, the school sits in the heart of the beautiful Illawarra region, within the grounds of Cedars Christian College. Being part of the larger Cedars community allows ASPIRE students opportunities to integrate into some Key Learning Areas (KLAs) in Cedars’ core classes, aligning with our shared values, mission, and vision.
The heart of Cedars ASPIRE, is an innovative forward-thinking Learning Plan that responds specifically to the academic, social, and emotional requirements unique to each child. ASPIRE’s intentionally designed curriculum is structured for smaller classroom settings and is stage-based, founded upon a Biblical worldview. It prioritises investment in remedial literacy, numeracy programs, and critical life and independent living skills.
In 2025 the school will have enrolments from years 3-7, comprised of 2 small classes. Each class will have approximately 5-10 students, a Class Teacher and Learning and Wellbeing Assistant. We are currently inviting applications for the following position commencing in Term 1, 2025:
STUDENT LEARNING & WELLBEING ASSISTANT
Permanent Full-Time starting 2025
A permanent full-time position (Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm during school term time) exists for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic Learning and Wellbeing Assistant to assist students with disability in a small group setting.
The successful applicant will be able to meet the following key criteria:
- Be able to assist in providing quality Christian education to students
- Certificate IV in School Based Education Support desirable
- An understanding of how students with disability learn, and the ability to assist the teacher to make adjustments in all areas of their learning and development both in the classroom and playground
- Experience with working with students with disability
- Have a current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID004) and have or be willing to obtain Asthma, Anaphylaxis and Diabetes training
- Have a genuine love of children and be committed to their growth in learning;
- Demonstrate a relational approach to their work, and a willingness to partner with teachers, students and parents
- Contribute positively to the culture of the College community
Demonstrate strong technology skills to effectively complete tasks such as preparing social stories and recording data electronically regarding student adjustments
The Student Learning & Wellbeing Assistant will work under the direction of the assigned classroom teacher. They will work with individual students and groups in a classroom setting and will need to accompany teaching staff and students on excursions and camps. The successful applicant will be reporting relevant aspects of student progress to teachers and other key leaders as well as contributing to professional discussions to ensure inclusive education for all students.
