Cedar College is an R-12 co-educational Christian school, situated in the suburb of Northgate, South Australia, 8 km north-east of the Adelaide CBD.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Position Title: Primary School Chaplain
Commencing: 20/01/2025
Type: Permanent Part-Time
Hours of Work: 21 hours per week (8.00 – 3.30 pm x 3 Days a week)
Reports to: Cedar College Pastor
FTE Salary: Commensurate with qualifications & experience

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a highly relational, genuinely compassionate, and biblically literate person to help our Primary School students discover Jesus. The Primary School Chaplain will hold closely to the values of Cedar College as outlined in this document and will work collaboratively with the College Pastor and College Leadership Team.

DETAILS SPECIFIC TO THIS POSITION

ensuring they can excel and grow, not only academically, but as unique individuals who have a sense of self and purpose. Our Christian faith and
identity are of utmost importance, and it is our Christian faith that shapes and drives our care for each student. As a team, we provide wellbeing
support to students with the hope that they will:
• Discover Jesus – as the source of hope and comfort
• Display love – through practical strategies, following Jesus’ lead
• Develop self – through resilience, character growth, realising we are valued by God
The Primary School Chaplain will work closely with the College Pastor to provide biblical instruction, spiritual encouragement, and pastoral support to
the primary school community. The chaplain will be a member of the Cedar Care team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Primary School Chaplain will be available and present to support students, staff, and families in the following ways:

  • One-on-one time with students – offering spiritual encouragement; behavioural support and emotional support (as directed by Cedar Care).
  • The student body – being a visible and relational presence in the schoolyard, forming meaningful connections with all year levels.
  • Chapel – helping to form the content and delivery of chapel, speaking and acting on stage, and developing ways for chapel messages to carry into the classroom or home.
  • In-class engagement – delivering devotions, engaging in Bible and Christian Living lessons, and supporting students.
  • Group work – developing opportunities for students to engage together with God and scripture through Bible clubs, to develop self socially and emotionally, and display love in the community.
  • Camps and excursions – connecting with students, providing extra supervision, giving emotional support, and creating value-adding content for these events.
  • Staff – offering incidental pastoral support to primary school staff.
  • Families – Forming connections with families, developing spaces for parents to discover Jesus, & where appropriate offering support to families.

The Primary School Chaplain will also be a member of the Cedar Care team. Under the direction of the Cedar Care Coordinator, the chaplain will collaborate with the counselling team to provide focused pastoral care to students.
The chaplain will adhere to policies and procedures that align with legal requirements and best practices for the individual pastoral care of students.
The chaplain will attend professional development and training required by the College, and actively seek opportunities to increase knowledge, experience and skills held.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Have a vibrant, growing relationship with Jesus Christ and be a committed member of a local church congregation
  • High level of empathy and communication
  • Sound Biblical knowledge and understanding, with formal biblical studies desirable
  • Experience and appreciation of the demands of working in a primary school context
  • Wisdom and willingness to work collaboratively with Christian staff and students from a wide variety of church backgrounds
  • Ability to provide guidance and wise counsel
  • Creativity and adaptability

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS AND CHECKS:
Highly desirable:

  • Biblical Studies; Cert IV in Children, Youth, & Family Intervention (or equivalent)

Required:

  • a current Working with Children Check
  • RRHAN-EC training (Responding to the Risk of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care training) prior to commencing employment at Cedar College.
