Website C.A.P.S. Coolgardie
VISION & MISSION
Vision: To be the lighthouse in Christian education, growing and adapting to meet the needs of Aboriginal (First Nations) students.
Mission: To provide a Christ-centred education that nurtures students spiritually, educationally, and socially, in an inclusive learning environment that embraces the richness of the Aboriginal (First Nations) heritage. To discover and develop God-given talents, grounded in biblical truths, equipping students with life skills, preparing them to be leaders in their communities and to make a positive difference in the world.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We need someone who is student-focused and loves to implement holistic educational practices.
Christian Aboriginal School Parent-Directed School (CAPS) Coolgardie is a boarding and day school of up to 100 students, where you will know every single one of them by name. Approximately 50% of students board on-site, which means the school is a genuine community — and you will be part of it.
This is not a role for someone who wants to polish ATAR essays. This is a role for someone who wants to give young people a voice.
◌ English Teaching — Deliver engaging, differentiated English programmes across secondary year groups, adapting content to meet a wide range of literacy levels and learning needs.
◌ Literacy Development — Diagnose and respond to significant literacy gaps — you will be working with students performing at the primary level within secondary year groups.
◌ Student Relationships — Build deep, trusting relationships with students. Classroom management here is relational, not transactional.
◌ Adaptability — Be ready to pivot. When events happen in the country or in the community, the student’s mood shifts. Your ability to read the room and adjust your programme is as important as the programme itself.
◌ Team Contribution — Join a staff team that is actively building its cohesion and culture. Someone who enjoys going the extra mile and investing in their colleagues will thrive here.
◌ Faith Integration — Uphold the school’s Christ-centred ethos in daily school life, staff devotions, and the integration of a biblical worldview across your teaching.
ABOUT YOU:
Ideal Candidate
✱ Practising Christian with a genuine faith and a deep care for young people. This is essential.
✱ Registered (or eligible to register) with the Teacher Registration Board of WA (TRBWA). Must be eligible to work in Australia.
✱ Secondary-qualified English teacher with experience or strong interest in developmental and middle school literacy.
✱ Highly relational — you find more meaning in the student in front of you than in the subject you are teaching.
✱ Adaptable and calm under pressure — this environment rewards flexibility, not rigidity.
✱ Culturally humble and willing to learn. Understanding of First Nations contexts is valued; a genuine desire to engage with the community is essential.
✱ Looking to commit for the long term. Three to five years is preferred.
The successful applicant will be subject to the Federal Police Clearance and Working with Children Check.
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
Christian Aboriginal School Parent-Directed School Coolgardie operates under the CAPS Board — a body established in 1980 with a mission to provide Christ-centred education that nurtures Aboriginal and First Nations students spiritually, educationally, and socially. The school is actively building the strength and cohesion of its teaching team under strong, committed leadership.
With a maximum of 100 students, this is a place where you will build quality relationships that most teachers in larger schools simply never get the chance to experience. The school’s reputation is growing — and this hire is a critical part of that story.
WHY JOIN CAPS COOLGARDIE
◌ Step into the priority role for a school that is on an upward trajectory — your contribution will matter immediately.
◌ Work in a school small enough to know every student, and purposeful enough to change every one of their lives.
The school subsidises accommodation, subject to availability and can be negotiated.
◌ Try before you commit — for strong candidates, CAPS will cover travel and accommodation for a 2-3 day school visit.
◌ Join a faith community where your values and your vocation are one and the same.
