VISION & MISSION
Vision: To be the lighthouse in Christian education, growing and adapting to meet the needs of Aboriginal (First Nations) students.
Mission: To provide a Christ-centred education that nurtures students spiritually, educationally, and socially, in an inclusive learning environment that embraces the richness of the Aboriginal (First Nations) heritage. To discover and develop God-given talents, grounded in biblical truths, equipping students with life skills, preparing them to be leaders in their communities and to make a positive difference in the world.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This role sits right where primary meets secondary — and that is exactly what makes it so important.
Christian Aboriginal School Parent-Directed School (CAPS) Coolgardie needs a teacher who is genuinely comfortable in the middle space: secondary-qualified, but able to think like a primary teacher when the moment calls for it. The teacher who thrives here leads with relationship, adapts without hesitation, and finds their deepest satisfaction not in delivering content, but in watching a student grow.
This is a generalist role — you will teach across two or three learning areas (to be confirmed based on your strengths and the school’s needs). Experience with, or a strong interest in, learning support and special needs identification would be highly regarded.
◌ Generalist Teaching — Deliver quality programmes across allocated middle school learning areas, differentiating content to meet the diverse ability levels within each class.
◌ Learning Support — Identify and respond to students with additional learning needs — including contributing to assessment, documentation, and data collection.
◌ Student Relationships — Build trusted, consistent relationships with students, many of whom have experienced disrupted schooling and complex home circumstances.
◌ Adaptability — Respond fluidly to shifting student needs — events in the community or in the country can change the mood of an entire class overnight. Flexibility here is not optional; it is the job.
◌ Team Building — Actively contribute to a staffroom culture that is growing in cohesion. Someone who enjoys investing in colleagues as much as students will fit right in.
◌ Faith Integration — Live out the school’s Christian values in the classroom, in relationships, and across daily school life. If you love integrating a biblical worldview throughout your teaching, this is a place for you.
ABOUT YOU:
Ideal Candidate
✱ Practising Christian with a genuine faith and a deep care for young people. This is essential.
✱ Secondary-qualified, with comfort and confidence teaching across multiple learning areas.
✱ Registered (or eligible to register) with the Teacher Registration Board of WA (TRBWA). Must be eligible to work in Australia.
✱ Naturally relational — you thrive when you know every student by name and by story.
✱ Experience with, or a strong interest in, learning support, special needs identification, and the NCCD framework. This is a growing priority for the school.
✱ Adaptable and emotionally intelligent — comfortable working with students whose lives are complex and whose needs shift from day to day.
✱ Culturally humble. Prior experience with First Nations students or communities is valued; genuine openness to learn from this community is essential.
✱ A team player who actively invests in building culture, not just delivering lessons.
✱ Looking to put down roots — a three to five year commitment is preferred.
The successful applicant will be subject to the Federal Police Clearance and Working with Children Check.
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
Christian Aboriginal School Parent-Directed School Coolgardie operates under the CAPS Board — a body established in 1980 with a mission to provide Christ-centred education that nurtures Aboriginal and First Nations students spiritually, educationally, and socially. The school is actively building the strength and cohesion of its teaching team under strong, committed leadership.
With a maximum of 100 students, this is a place where you will build quality relationships that most teachers in larger schools simply never get the chance to experience. The school’s reputation is growing — and this hire is a critical part of that story.
WHY JOIN CAPS COOLGARDIE
◌ Step into the priority role for a school that is on an upward trajectory — your contribution will matter immediately.
◌ Work in a school small enough to know every student, and purposeful enough to change every one of their lives.
◌ The school subsidises accommodation, subject to availability and can be negotiated.
◌ Try before you commit — for strong candidates, CAPS will cover travel and accommodation for a 2-3 day school visit.
◌ Join a faith community where your values and your vocation are one and the same.
