College Context

Alta-1 College Queensland is a multi-sited, independent, co-educational, Special Assistance School (SAS) for Years 7–12. We work with at-risk young people in deliberately small campus settings, providing trauma-informed, wrap-around support that empowers them to discover their identity and purpose through a recovery focused education. As a Christian organisation, we believe that every young person is made in the image of God and holds inherent and irrevocable value. We believe that every young person matters and therefore deserves safety and respect. The Opportunity

Following the planned transition of the current Lead Teacher at one of our Caboolture campuses to another position in early 2027, the opportunity presents for a well-qualified and passionate educator to take the leadership of our “Senior Program” (located in Caboolture) in a transitional arrangement across the period of Term 4 2026. The role is a unique one combining the leadership of a small program of the College (40 students) with the leadership of a small staff team (approximately 5 staff). The successful candidate will be a highly relational individual who is also an accomplished educator with awareness of trauma-informed best practice. Stepping into an established Program the individual will be active in seeking to understand and implement the existing models of practice and will work in a manner that is deeply aligned to the organisation’s values and faith position. The role is a teaching role and the successful candidate will be able to work effectively with the small staff team while also delivering quality teaching to at-risk students. The program sits within a larger support framework that includes leadership, administration and students services supports. N.B. The position title “Lead Teacher” does not denote that the successful candidate will have HALT accreditation, it does also not indicate that salary is commensurate with pay for “Lead Teachers” in other sectors.

 

Role Purpose & Key Responsibilities

The Lead Teacher plays a central role in ensuring the successful delivery of the educational and recovery programs of Alta-1 College. They:

• Successfully lead small teams in order to deliver great outcomes for at-risk students
• Are responsible for the overall management of a college campus program
• Deliver curriculum in line with College and regulatory requirements
• Provide pastoral care and support to students
• Manage student behaviour and ensure a safe, inclusive learning environment
• Engage positively with parents and external agencies
• Contribute to campus and program development

The role requires professional integrity, effective communication, and a commitment to both student transformation and teaching excellence.

 

Role Selection Criteria

Essential (applicable to all college staff):

• Commitment to Christian faith, college values and the highest standards of professional conduct
• Passionate about supporting at-risk and vulnerable young people towards positive growth and change

Essential (role specific):

• Demonstrated capacity to lead healthy teams to deliver great outcomes
• Demonstrated capacity to deliver curriculum and support diverse learners
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with at-risk young people
• Organisational skills, including accurate record-keeping and reporting

Highly desirable:

• Knowledge of trauma-informed, inclusive education practices
• Previous experience working with at-risk and educationally disengaged young people

Required Qualifications:

•  To be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers
•  Holder of a valid driver license
