The Opportunity
Alta-1 College QLD is growing in response to the increasing need for quality education alternatives for young people who are at-risk of educational disengagement and negative life outcomes. The college delivers a model that has positively impacted the lives of hundreds of young people across the last decade in Queensland. Our vision to see lives changed “one-at-a-time” as well as our mission to “transform communities through justice, knowledge recovery and hope” are the other key drivers that underpin our desire to reach more young people. This season of growth is both exciting and challenging and staff joining the college will need to carry a genuine heart for at-risk young people, a willingness to work closely with others in team and a capacity to navigate change flexibly. While there are dynamic elements to our current season the college operates from a strong base of a decade of operation and has a consistent, passionate and community-minded staff team. As a staff member at Alta-1, you will never feel alone.
Qualified, passionate and experienced teachers should apply for this Teacher Position. Our teachers require heart, energy, wisdom and professionalism, working holistically with young people to support their education, school community engagement and recovery journeys. In addition to secondary trained teachers, those teachers with primary school training are encouraged to apply as the classroom model is reflective of a primary school setting. While the College has had a successful recruitment process across the end of 2025 we are yet to fill an important teacher leadership role. The position, known as a “Lead Teacher” position is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of a campus program. The program carries an enrolment of approximately 40 students and the successful candidate will also oversee and directly support four program staff. The role is a teaching role and the successful candidate will be able to work effectively with the small staff team while also delivering quality teaching to at-risk students. The program sits within a larger support framework that includes leadership, administration and students services supports. N.B. The title “Lead Teacher” does not denote that the successful candidate will have HALT accreditation, it does also not indicate that salary is commensurate with pay for “Lead Teachers” in other sectors.
