About the Opportunity
We are looking for a Human Resources Manager with relevant experience to join a large dynamic team of educators and support staff at Alta-1 College.

Here’s some information about us…
At Alta-1 we recognise that adverse life experiences can impact a student’s sense of self-worth, motivation, and capacity for learning, making engagement in a mainstream school setting difficult.

As an independent, co-educational CARE (Curriculum and Reengagement in Education) School, Alta-1 is a Christian organisation that works with students from years 7-12. We provide students with wraparound support to guide them on a journey of recovery through a trauma-informed approach. This approach helps students acknowledge, confront, and resolve barriers that have impacted their ability to reach their full potential.

We believe in fostering a highly relational environment where students, teachers and staff develop meaningful connections based on trust, respect, and empathy. These relationships serve as the foundation for effective teaching and learning, allowing us to better understand and support the unique needs and aspirations of each student.

About the People and Culture area
The People and Culture department is comprised of three integral areas: Employee Experience, Human Resources, and Learning and Development. Each area plays a unique role in fostering a positive workplace culture, organisational health and supporting the professional growth and development of our employees.

Employee Experience
The Employee Experience team is dedicated to designing and facilitating people-centred processes, systems, and projects. We focus on cultivating values and behaviours that align with our college vision. Additionally, we strategise for the future of work by staying abreast of industry trends and implementing innovative practices. Our team prioritises organisational health, embedding culture, leading change management initiatives, and facilitating leadership development programs.

Human Resources
The Human Resources team is responsible for the day-to-day functions of HR within the college. Our primary focus is to ensure compliance with relevant employment laws, regulations, and internal policies. We oversee recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, performance management, and employee relations. Our goal is to support the overall well-being and success of our employees while maintaining a fair and inclusive workplace.

Learning and Development
While still in its nascent stage, the Learning and Development area is an exciting new addition to our People and Culture department. We are committed to building robust programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing employee growth and development. Through training, workshops, and other learning opportunities, we aim to empower employees to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to the college’s success

Now let’s talk about you!
If successful, you will be responsible for the delivery of the best possible duty of care for each student in the light of the values and objectives of Alta-1 College.

As a key member of the People and Culture team, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Human Resource area within the College. Reporting directly to the Director of People and Culture, this position is integral to ensuring the smooth operation of daily HR functions while aligning human resource initiatives with business objectives, creating an environment where the team can flourish and contribute to Alta-1’s purpose.

Your strong interpersonal and communication skills make you a perfect fit for the Human Resources manager role. Empathetic and people-focused, you are capable of addressing sensitive HR issues and influencing others across all levels of the organisation. You have proven conflict resolution and negotiation abilities.

Professional and resourceful, your energetic approach allows you to work independently and collaboratively, managing multiple tasks effectively. Your exceptional organisational and time management skills, keen attention to detail and proficiency in utilising technology as a workplace tool ensures that all human resources data and information is handled with focus, sensitivity, and care. You actively engage with the Employee Experience and Learning and Development teams to ensure a collaborative, consistent experience across all functions of People & Culture.

Adaptable and flexible, you are an agent of change. You embrace a growth mindset, continually learning and improving. You foster the same attitude in your team and encourage a culture of trust, support, and acceptance. Always welcoming different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
